Journeying across cultures, homes, and nightclubs, Zizou finds belonging in various places through Zenia Fauxbia Darling—his drag persona— with a little help from some queens he’s grown up admiring in Bollywood films. Be it watching Madhuri Dixit for the first time or learning to dance with Saroj Khan on TV, Zizou pieces together moments, memories, and jhatkas that feel familiar and comforting to find Zenia anew in every home.

Director’s Bio
Ahon Gooptu (he/him) is a Kolkata-based playwright, actor, and theatre producer drawn to interdisciplinary collaborations for telling queer, brown, and im/migrant narratives that play with memory in non-linear ways. He is founding collective member of Curl, co-founder and former Managing Producer of Side B Society, and former Artistic Associate of Make/Shift Theatre Company. Among other companies, he has worked with Steppenwolf in Chicago, Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Taproot Theatre in Seattle, Treasure Trunk Theatre in New York, Farmers Alley Theatre in Kalamazoo, and Ranan, The Red Curtain, and Pickle Factory Dance Foundation in Kolkata. He trained at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center and holds an MA in Theatre and Performance Research from Florida State University and a BA in Theatre and English from Grinnell College. Ahon has published Labor Day Reunion (Writers Workshop) and All That Glistens (Grinnell College Press). Other playwriting credits include Seasons of Love, Looking For, Taramandal! Ek Naya Safar, Subject for a Short Story, and at the end of the tunnel.
Curl is an interdisciplinary artist collective that strives to draw bold connections across time and space, telling queer, feminist, and transnational stories of belonging through an exploration of gender, sexuality, race, immigration status, and art. The world that we live in propels us to find unlikely threads—or curls—between the obstacles that pose a threat to the identities we embody and the communities we create. Curl is currently based out of New York, Kolkata, and Minneapolis. Recent projects include The Maid (New York), Seasons of Love (Kolkata), Anna Christie (New York), and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Minneapolis).
